How Can I Serve Others?

There is nothing more satisfying than being a part of God's care for this world.  Here at Bethlehem, there are many ways to do this from making pajamas for kids in need to serving food to the homeless in downtown San Diego.  From local to global needs, there is a place for you.  We also know that you bring your own unique gifts and ideas for how to serve others.   

 

Annual event in which Sunday morning worshipers put God's Word into action by carrying out multiple service projects for the larger community.

An active group of women who regularly come together in study, fellowship and service. A number of ministries on this page are a result of this important group.

A non-profit organization at Bethlehem that seeks to connect cultures, promote peace and bring local solutions to global issues.

Community Library

A free lending library for children located in the Multi-Use Building next to the church.  Open Tuesday and Thursday 2:30-5pm all year and during school holidays and summer.

A non-profit organization in downtown Encinitas.  CRC is dedicated to helping women and children, individuals, and families live safe, self-sufficient lives by providing critical assistance in the areas of domestic violence services, food programs, and emergency and transitional housing assistance.

Bi-weekly sale of "fair trade" organic coffee, cocoa, tea and chocolate products to benefit small farm cooperatives around the world.

Each month becomes an opportunity to give of oneself.  The Giving Tree is located by the front door as you come into the church.

A Parish Nurse shares her care and expertise. 

Once a year for two weeks (usually in January or February), Bethlehem hosts families who are transitioning to more self-sustaining circumstances.

The Biblical concept of Jubilee, of unburdening society of debt and slavery is put into action with regard to issues of justice and removing the paralyzing effects of third-world debt.

Men's Group

In the process of being organized.  

Making hundreds of pajamas for kids in need, Pajama project is truly a work of the larger community.

Prayer concerns are lifted by a trusted group of folks who maintain confidentiality.

Prayer shawls are made amidst wonderful fellowship and shared with church members going through a hard time.

Quilts are made in love for people in the community and world-wide through Lutheran World Relief.

Stephen Ministers are well-trained listeners who bring a depth of experience and are there for the long-term.

Help in the soup kitchen at the Third Avenue Charitable Organization at First Lutheran in downtown San Diego.

blcym is an exciting, Christ-centered place where all junior high and high school students might feel loved and a part of a larger, deeply connected family.
