Wednesday morning at 8:30am in the Family Center. The Bethlehem Women of the ELCA need your help cutting, sewing and
tying quilts. Please express your interest to Dana Roberts at Sunday service or come visit on a Wednesday morning. If you know someone deserving or in need of a "prayer" quilt,
please contact Dana at 760-744-4764 or DanaRoberts35@gmail.com. Quilts for the World Bethlehem Women’s “Scraps
& Prayers” quilters participate in Lutheran World Relief’s (LWR) Project Comfort. Every Wednesday morning
they meet in the Multi-Use Room at Bethlehem Lutheran Church to lay out and “tie” quilts for Lutheran World Relief
and the Wounded Warrior Battalion at Camp Pendleton. We also make baby quilts from the left over flannel from the PJ project,
swaddling blankets for the newborns and newly baptized infants in the congregation and school bags for distribution through
LWR and through local organizations. (Everyone is welcome to join in ‘as able.’)
A LWR quilt is special! It brings warmth on a
cold night and shelter from the sun on a hot day. It becomes a bed, a room divider, a backpack to carry belongings, and at
times even a home. Each quilt is one of a kind, with a beauty all its own, made as a gift of hope by caring people.
Last year LWR distributed
412,710 quilts to their ‘overseas partners.’ It costs $2.25 per quilt for shipping. Each fall our Bethlehem Lutheran
Church unit displays the quilts in church. Donations are accepted for the quilts to help defray the shipping expenses LWR
incurs.
Last year the quilters at Bethlehem Lutheran church sent 11 quilts to LWR for distribution, raised $3500 to help defray
shipping costs incurred by LWR, took 11 quilts to the Wounded Warrior Battalion, made 11 Prayer Quilts for critically ill
members of the congregation, made 14 baby quilts which were given to Gently Hugged as well as the Secret Santa Project and
filled 314 school bags with school supplies; sending 107 school bags to LWR and 207 to Central City Lutheran Mission in San
Bernardino, CA.
Scraps & Prayers also participates in Bethlehem’s Women’s Christmas Bazaar; offering ‘special’
quilts and other craft items for sale to support our various programs including the PJ Project, the Prayer Shawl Ministry
and other programs supported by the Bethlehem Women of the ELCA.
