Community Resource Center (CRC)

Bethlehem Lutheran Church is closely connected with the Community Resource Center of Encinitas and refers people for food, emergency assistance and shelter.  There are also numerous volunteer opportunities.  This is a great organization!

The CRC offers a number of services

Social Services Program
Community Resource Center’s Social Service Department provides homeless and at-risk homeless households with the tools and resources necessary to avoid and escape homelessness and hunger.

Case Managers and Counselors work with clients on an individual and group basis to assess needs and assist clients on their own path to long-term self-sufficiency.

Homeless Prevention and Intervention
Community Resource Center services focus on the low-income at risk of becoming homeless and the transitionally homeless. The comprehensive range of services includes:

• The North County Coastal Interfaith Shelter Network (ISN), a collaboration of faith-based organizations that provides temporary winter shelter and meals for transitionally homeless individuals and families
• The Motel Voucher Program, which provides a short-term stay in a local motel, and may prevent people’s fall from temporary homelessness to chronic homelessness

Food Program
Community Resource Center’s Food Programs help individuals and families in need avoid hunger. Services include the Bread Room (operated Monday through Friday); Emergency Food Pantry (EFP); USDA Commodities Program; and Food Stamp Assistance Program. Through the Bread Room and Fresh Rescue distributions at the CRC client center, CRC distributes approximately 1,000 monthly distributions of bread and cereal products, as well as perishable produce, dairy, and meats.  The Bread Room is entirely volunteer-operated, and is open from 11 A.M to 2 P.M., Monday through Friday.

Self-Sufficiency - CRC Client Center Distributions

Through a collaboration with Feeding America, Fresh Rescue perishable products are distributed to case-managed clients three days each week at the CRC Client Center.  CRC also distributes Fresh Rescue foods on a weekly basis to residents of Cantebria Senior Apartments, an affordable housing complex for senior citizens.

Employment Assistance & Other Needs
Struggling families and individuals need transitional assistance to avoid falling into chronic homelessness, so our programs provide more than shelter assistance and emergency food.

• Employment Preparation Program (EPP) and budgeting assistance
• Assistance filing for public benefits, including SSI, TANF, MediCal, California Healthy Families (low-cost children’s health insurance), SDG&E CARE Program (to lower utility bills by 20 percent), and Food Stamps through the Food Stamp Assistance Program
• Individualized case management
• Access to necessary household items and additional supportive services, including: clothing, transportation, and gas vouchers; hygiene products; computer, voice mail, and mail services; assessment of mental health needs; assistance with affordable housing and childcare; and assessment of mental health and medical treatment needs

Emergency Services
CRC was an essential response center during San Diego County’s October 2007 wildfires, coordinating with the Office of Emergency Services, the Red Cross, the Del Mar Fairgrounds, and several other North County satellite evacuation sites to deliver and redirect donated resources. Because of our extensive relationships with businesses and community groups, we are well-suited for disaster response requiring collection and movement of essential items such as emergency food, toiletries, and clothing.

Holiday Distribution of Food & Essentials
Our Annual Holiday Baskets Program is the largest distribution of its kind in San Diego County. With the help of over 200 collaborating organizations, this program provides a turkey and other staple foods, clothing, gifts, blankets and bedding, toys, bicycles, house wares, infant and toddler items, and more to approximately 1,200 households.
