Sage Garden

The Sage Garden Project is a program that brings gardens, cooking classes, and nutritional science – as well as opportunities for physical activity and exercise – to targeted elementary schools. The goal of the program is to reduce the incidence of diabetes. Because the disease is developing at an epidemic rate in the Hispanic/Latino population, schools with a large percentage of these students are targeted for participation.

We have been the blessed to be on the schedule for Bethlehem Serves day for several years.  Volunteers help maintain the school garden, complete adult required  projects and deep clean out nutritional science lab. During the summer months we have a weekly volunteer day in the garden on Friday mornings from 9-11 to help maintain the garden while the students are on summer break. Participant share in the harvest at the end of their shift. All are welcome!

Food scraps and cardboard collection - We maintain 3 large worm composting bins and need your food scraps. Food scraps = fruit and vegetable scraps. Please separate out citrus. Eggshells, coffee grounds and filters, tea bags (staples removed). There is a marked collection bin outside of the farm gate on Bonita Drive. Drop off your scraps at your convenience. We are always in need of cardboard to lay down under mulch for weed control. Slide your flattened cardboard boxes under the farm gate on Bonita Drive.

Saturday project days - The first Saturday of each month (September-June) we host a garden and farm project day from 9-11am very similar to the work you will be doing today. We tackle a big project that needs many adult hands.

Soup Night - In May (exact date TBA) of each year we host a Soup Night Fundraiser on the Ocean Knoll Campus. We begin at 10:30am preparing soups with garden fresh ingredients to serve to the Ocean Knoll families attending Open House.
